‘Manusath Derana’ of TV "Derana" launched its 72nd programme with the assistance of Sri Lanka Army Electrical & Mechanical Engineers - Seva Vanitha Branch (SLEME - SVB) at Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya, Galewala on 27 July 2024.
Accordingly, several community programmes for the benefit of Civil Community, Officers, Other Ranks and Civil Staff were held with the participation of a residents in the area.
Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) graced the occasion as the chief guest together with the Commander of Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.
The inauguration of the major welfare event marked with lighting of the traditional oil lamp, the observance of one-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes and the recital of the ASVU song.
The beautiful dancing performance by the students of Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya added a vibrant colour to the event.
Marking the first phase of the programme, 'Manusath Derana' of TV Derana donated two sets of sport accessories to Moragolla Maha Vidyalaya and Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya. Meanwhile, Aqualife Water Company donated a water filter to Hombawa Maha Vidyalaya during the segment.
During the second phase, Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of SLEME together with Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon, the Chairperson of SLEME-SVB donated school shoes among 150 students selected from 08 remote schools in the area. The members of the SLEME-SVB and generous donors contributed for the shoes.
Subsequently, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of ASVU distributed 20 free spectacles and 20 dry ration packs among pregnant mothers. Directorate of SLEME extended their generosity for these donations.
Aftermath, another 400 dry ration packs were also distributed among 400 deserving families selected from the area on GN divisions basis by the President of ASVU.
In addition, the Army Chief donated music instruments worth of Rs. 300,000.00 to the Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya.
Towards the end, of the day's agenda, Derana Little Star champions entertained the audience showcasing their talents while 'Adi Ridma' - Musical Band of SLEME coloured the event with their music.
Then the President Seva Vanitha Unit and the Army Chief handed over the renovated music room of Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya to the students. The troops of 5 SLEME contributed the project extending their manpower and financial generosity under the supervision of the Commanding Officer.
Before the culmination of the massive charity programme, Army Chief together with the Principal of Silvathgala School inspected the school premises and shared his thought with the residents participated in the programme.
Senior Members of SLEME-SVB, members of TV Derana and Manusath Derana, Staff of the Medical Team, Donors Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Heads of Non Governmental Organizations, School Sttaf and students, many civil communities attended the event.
