Under the guidance of the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, scholarships were awarded by ASVU to children of Army families on 27 June 2024 at the Army Headquarters. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the ASVU.
During the ceremony, 143 scholarships worth Rs 3.5 million were provided to the children of Army families through the Army Welfare Fund. Among the recipients, 28 children received Rs 15,000.00 each, children who excelled in the grade – 05 scholarship examination to newly opened bank accounts at the Bank of Ceylon, Lake House Branch. Additionally, 74 children who successfully passed the GCE (O/L) examination in 2022 with 9 A’s were awarded a financial grant of Rs 20,000.00 each. Furthermore, 41 children who excelled in the GCE (A/L) examination with 3 A’s were awarded a financial grant of Rs 25,000.00 each.
The Bank of Ceylon provided school accessories, including a till box, exercise books, caps, and school bags, to the scholarship recipients. Following the scholarship distribution, a memento exchange took place between the President of the ASVU and officials of the Bank of Ceylon.
