Monthly Meeting Highlights of Army Seva Vanitha Unit

The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on 19 April 2024 at the Army Headquarters premises with the participation of Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons, Executive Board Members and Senior Members.

Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of ASVU, chaired the meeting, which commenced with the singing of the ASVU song, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of fallen War Heroes. Then, a documentary was displayed containing the service rendered by ASVU.

Afterwards, committee members were selected based on the seniority of the ASVU members, as mentioned below:

Assistant Public Relations Officer - Mrs. Neluka Nanayakkara

Project Incharge Coordinator - Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo

Addressing the gathering, the President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit elaborated the projects to be implemented in the future. Subsequently, Captain M.A.W Nimasha, read the minutes of the previous meeting and the Executive Secretary of ASVU, and Major P.G.P.C Kumari, the Treasurer of ASVU, presented the audit report.

Afterwards, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of ASVU, awarded a financial grant of 600,000/- each to four soldiers serving at the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers to build their houses. Additionally, a financial grant of 450,000/- was provided to four soldiers to complete partially constructed houses, and another financial grant of 300,000/- was allocated to a civilian employee for the same purpose.

Two medical aids, each worth 75,000.00/=, were also provided-one for a soldier to treat a head injury caused by a sudden accident and another for a civil servant to address low blood pressure and depression.

Furthermore, in line with the President's initiative to support families with three children, financial donations of 100,000.00/= each were given to three soldiers of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

To alleviate existing economic hardships, dry ration packs containing essential food items were distributed among 20 soldiers and civil servants of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. Additionally, necessary school equipment was provided to the children of 10 soldiers and civil servants.

Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch made financial donation worth 600,000.00/= to a civilian employee from the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and 450,000.00/= was allocated for a soldier to complete the construction of a partially built house

During the same occasion, Mrs. Manori Welagedara, Mrs. Dilupa Peiries, and Mrs. Surangi Amarapala, Chairpersons of the Gemunu Watch, Gajaba Regiment, and Corps of Engineer Services Seva Vanitha Branches, also made financial donations to the ASVU fund.

At the culmination of the monthly meeting, all participants had refreshment and president of ASVU had a cordial interaction with members.
