On the occasion of International Women's Day, a special celebration programme was held at the Officers Mess of Corps of Engineer Services on 08 March 2024. The event was organized by Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) and Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the President of the ASVU graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The festivities commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. Following this, a special documentary was displayed, aiming to inspire the members of the ASVU.
During the programme, Dr. Bhagya Abesinghe conducted a captivating song review programme, showcasing the talent and spirit of the women of the Sri Lanka Army.
Moreover, the President distributed 100 dry ration packs among needy female soldiers. Further, 10 valuable gift vouchers were also presented to pregnant women soldiers.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by female soldiers beyond their duty, financial assistance was provided for housing and medical needs. One female soldier attached to the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps received Rs. 600,000/- towards the completion of her new home, while another was granted Rs. 450,000/- to finalize the construction of her dwelling. Additionally, a donation of Rs. 100,000/- was bestowed upon a female soldier to facilitate necessary medical treatments for her child battling Thalassemia.
