The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on Wednesday (10 Jan) at the Army Headquarters premises with the participation of Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons, Executive Board Members and Senior Members.
Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of ASVU, chaired the meeting, which commenced with singing of the ASVU song, followed by a two minutes silence in remembrance of fallen War Heroes. Thereafter, committee members were selected based on the seniority of the ASVU members, as mentioned below:
Vice President - Mrs. Dilupa Peiris
Secretary - Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon
Assistant Secretary - Mrs. Shammi Jayawardena
Public Relations Officer (PRO) - Mrs. Shehani Fernando
Assistant PRO - Mrs. Thushari Yativavala Aluwihare
Project Incharge Coordinator - Mrs. Neluka Nanayakkara
The President elaborated on the achievements of the previous year, emphasizing that all projects had been successfully implemented. Subsequently, the minutes of the previous meeting were read by Captain M.A.W Nimasha, the Executive Secretary of ASVU, and the audit report was presented by Major P.G.P.C Kumari, the Treasurer of ASVU.
To show support for the ASVU's affairs, the organization made donations of Rs 600,000, Rs 500,000, and Rs 450,000, respectively, to three soldiers whose houses are under construction. Additionally, a hearing aid was donated to a soldier experiencing hearing impairment due to a terrorist attack during a humanitarian operation. Furthermore, a cash donation of Rs 42,000 was made to purchase a wheelchair for disabled father-in-law of a soldier.
Mrs. Uthpala Hettiarachchi, Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Seva Vanitha Branch, also made a financial donation to the ASVU fund during the same occasion.
