ASVU Monthly Meeting Appoints New Exco Members

The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) presided by Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Chairpersons of other Seva Vanitha Branches and Senior members of ASVU was held at the Army HQ on Wednesday (01 December).

The meeting session, adhering to traditions began with the lighting of the oil lamp, singing of the Seva Vanitha song, and a poignant observance of a two-minute silence, dedicated to the memory of fallen war heroes followed by a presentation displaying various Seva Vanitha projects through a short video documentary.

Afterwards, Major W.M.D Warnakulasuriya, revisited the minutes of the previous meeting. Major P.G.P.C Kumari, the Treasurer, then presented the budget and accounts of the ASVU to the gathering.

Mrs Janaki Liyanage afterwards addressed the gathering, expressing her gratitude to the attendees and outlined the ASVU's future initiatives.

To enrich welfare projects, being carried out by the ASVU further, Mrs. Samanka Fernando, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, made a financial donation to the ASVU. Mrs. Liyanage as the Chief Guest during the session also gifted Rs. 6 lakhs to Lance Bombardier for construction of his partly-built house. In addition, another Bombardier was donated a sum of Rs 4.5 lakhs towards the completion of his partly-built house during the same meeting.

The meeting also witnessed acts of kindness and support by generously giving a hearing aid to another Sergeant who had lost his hearing partly while working in the 3 Combat Convoy Team in Mali after an explosion that triggered with a terrorist attack.

Again, a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs was gifted to a Bombardier for completion of remaining construction work of his house. In addition, a sum of Rs 1 lakh was given to another Bombardier for medical treatment of his child, who is suffering from a critical disease.

The gathering concluded on a positive note, marked by a collective group photograph, symbolizing the unity and shared commitment of the ASVU towards supporting and uplifting the living standards of the military community.
