The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at Army Headquarters was held on Tuesday (7 November), presided by Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU.
The session began with the customary lighting of the traditional oil lamp, singing of the ASVU theme song and the two-minute silence, dedicated to the memory of fallen War Heroes. The ambience was adorned with a colourful welcome dance, performed by the Army Dancing troupe. The session followed a presentation that speaks of ASVU projects through a short video documentary.
The formal proceedings commenced with Captain M.A.W Nimasha, the Executive Secretary, revisiting the minutes of the previous meeting. Major P.G.P.C Kumari, the Treasurer, then presented the budget and accounts of the ASVU to the gathering.
Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU afterwards addressed the members and outlined the series of pending welfare projects as well as future programmes.
The meeting also witnessed acts of kindness and support with the donation of a hearing aid to a mother of an Army member of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps. Additionally, a sewing machine was gifted to the spouse of an Army member, aiming to help upgrade their livelihood and overcome economic challenges.
Further uplifting the spirit of community, Mrs. Liyanage, as the Chief Guest, contributed Rs. 6 lakhs and Rs. 4.5laks for completion of a partly-built house of two Army personnel.
The gathering concluded on a positive note, marked by a collective group photograph, symbolizing the unity and shared commitment of the ASVU towards supporting and uplifting the living standards of the military community.
