ASVU Annual General Meeting Discusses Future Projects

The 39th Annual General Meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) got underway on Monday (16 October) at Army Headquarters, presided by Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU.

Chairpersons of all regimental Seva Vanitha Branches and ASVU senior members attended the occasion which commenced with a two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes. It followed singing of the Seva Vanitha song.

During the meeting, the ASVU President invited the members to appoint senior members to fill vacant office bearers’ posts in the executive committee, as outlined below:

- Assistant Secretary: Mrs. Omila Jayawardena

- Public Relations Officer: Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon

- Assistant Public Relations Officer: Mrs. Shyamali Wijesekara

- Project in-charge Coordinator : Mrs. Dilupa Peiris

The President then addressed the meeting, discussing the future plans and proposed projects of the ASVU. Major H. Wanniarachchi, the Executive Secretary of the ASVU, presented minutes of the previous meeting. The ASVU treasurer, Major P. Kumari, presented the budget allocation reports and expenditure details.

During the meeting, the President sought opinions and suggestions from the executive council.

Furthermore, a hearing-impaired daughter of Lance Corporal H.M.K.L.K Herath received hearing aids. The President also donated a Juki sewing machine to support self-employment, which is managed by the spouse of a deceased War Hero of the 9 Corps of Engineer Service Regiment.

Professor Hemamali Gunathilake as a separate programme delivered a timely lecture on ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ as a special feature of the meeting. The meeting concluded with the singing of the national anthem, followed by all senior members of Seva Vanitha taking a group photo after a friendly chat while enjoying refreshments.
