The ‘Saubhagya Handicrafts Trade Exhibition’ of the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch (SLACAL - SVB) was staged at the Bodhirajarama school ground in Panagoda during 22-24 September 2023.
Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest. The project was launched as a concept of Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekara, Chairperson SLACAL - SVB with objective of promoting domestic production of handicrafts among Seva Vanitha ladies.
This event opens up new avenues of income generation for those spouses in Army families. They showcased their exquisite handicrafts, making them available to those sponsoring agents. A valuable workshop also got underway concurrently at the same location in order to equip these women with the knowledge and skills, needed to find markets for their products. Senior Officers, Officers, members of ASVU, Other Ranks and a large crowd of visitors in the area explored the exhibition during the three days.
