Under the guidance of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and the instructions of President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the ASVU in collaboration with CBL Company organized a Cookery Programme under the theme ‘Viruliya Harasara’, aimed at enhancing the knowledge of culinary and cookery skills of the Lady Officers, Women soldiers and spouses of service personnel.
The event was held on Thursday (17 August) at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Centre auditorium.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the President, ASVU who was welcomed by the Chairperson, Corps of Agriculture and Livestock, Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekara at the entrance.
In conformity to the traditions, the event commenced by lighting the oil lamp and reciting the Seva Vanitha Song. Subsequently, a two-minute silence was observed in honour of fallen war heroes followed by a video presentation on the role of the ASVU.
At the outset, Mr. Sachi Fernando, the General Manager of the Food Cluster Section, CBL Company, introduced the importance of the workshop and commenced the cookery workshop. Over 200 personnel participated in the programme.
At the culmination of the workshop, the President, ASVU presented gift parcels, inclusive of CBL Food Cluster products to all the participants.
Subsequently, mementos were exchanged by the President, ASVU and the General Manager of CBL Food Cluster Section. The Secretary, ASVU proposed the vote of thanks. All the participants leaving memories appeared for a group photograph followed by an All Rank tea.
