The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the Army HQ taking cognizance of the students' needs for fast developing digital learning launched one more mega welfare project for the benefit of children of 55 deserving Army and Civil personnel serving the Army HQ by presenting them with free mobile Tablet Computers during a ceremony on Thursday (27) at the Army HQ, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.
Award of those mobile computing devices, arranged on a suggestion made by Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU was made possible, thanks to the initiatives taken by a former ASVU senior member, Mrs Thanuja Dias who coordinated with the USA -based 'Social Care Foundation’ for patronage through Mrs Malshini Perera, a senior member of the sponsoring foundation.
The day's proceedings began after arrival of the day's Chief Guest at the location where lighting of the traditional oil lamp, singing of the ASVU song and other formalities got underway highlighting the importance of the welfare project and its benefits to the recipients. At first, the stock of those mobile devices was symbolically delivered to the ASVU President by Mrs Chaya Perera, the beloved mother of Mrs. Malshini Perera of the 'Social Care Foundation’.
Subsequently, the Commander of the Army, together with the President, ASVU presented several appreciative mementos to Mrs Thanuja Dias, Mrs Chaya Perera, Mrs Malshini Perera, Mrs Thilaka Devapriya and Mrs Shenali Waduge, all those who supported the project dedicatedly and importation of those mobile tablets that can be used largely for educational purposes.
Afterwards, the Commander of the Army, together with the ASVU President, Mrs Janaki Liyanage, Mrs Thanuja Dias, Mrs Chaya Perera, Mrs Thilaka Devapriya, Ms Shenali Waduge and Mr Nujeeth Samarawickrama respectively handed over those Tablets to the students who had been invited to the ceremony. After a brief vote of thanks, proposed by a beneficiary, all the invitees and students sat for a group photograph.
Chief of Staff, Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP, Senior members of the ASVU, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks also participated in the event.
