The Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture & Livestock Seva Vanitha Unit added due recognition to the Army women who work for defence of the motherland and all women in general during a special event organized on account of the ‘International Women’s Day’. The project, themed ‘Empowering Courage Woman through Entrepreneurship’ was held on 12 Mar 2022 at 4th Artillery Unit Auditorium at Panagoda Army Cantonment.
Director-General Financial Management (DGFM) of the Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture & Livestock Major General Shiran Abeysekera at the invitation of Mrs Shanthi Abeysekera, Chairperson, Corps of Agriculture Seva Vanitha Unit graced the event as the Chief Guest, together with the Director Agriculture and Livestock, Brigadier Arosha Rajapaksha, Brig Bandula Liyanage, Centre Commandant and Senior Officers and their spouses. The day’s programme was featured by welcome dance musical flavour where the pride of feminism and its importance to society was highlighted.
The lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the observance of a two-minute silence in memory of all fallen War Heroes set the stage ready for the day’s climax. The Seva Vanitha Unit presented a series of videos with project updates to the audience, showing steps taken by the Seva Vanitha Unit SLACAL over a period of last five months.
A gathering of spouses of Officers and Other Ranks joined the occasion and enjoyed the aesthetic flavour of the whole programme while Mrs R.P Kusumawathie delivered a keynote address on Art & handicrafts after presenting a series of videos featuring courageous women's self-creations in the Corps of Agriculture and Livestock.
Meanwhile, Mrs Shanthi Abeysekera towards the end of the day’s programme showing gratitude for the success of the project awarded mementoes to Mr. Charitha Warnakulasooriya, Manager-Marketing of the CDB, main sponsor.

A special token of appreciation was awarded to Mrs Nadee Liyanage who was awarded as the “Best Woman in Sales and Marketing” at the Vanitha ‘Abimana’ award ceremony held recently by Sirasa TV.
All attendees were given a “Swayanjatha Al Wee” sapling as a token of memory of the day. Distribution of 85 Kumbuk plants among Chairperson of Corp Engineers Service, 23 water filters to SLACAL units & its farms, Dehydrating machine-to 1 SLACAL for the proposed project of Dehydration of Foods and 413 ltrs of Dulux paints to colour wash buildings of farms of Corps of Agriculture and Livestock through the assistance of Mrs Kaushalya Ranasinghe, member of SVU-SLACAL also took place around the same time.
The day’s event concluded with the address of the Colonel Commandant SLACAL about the development projects of Corps & the future of Army Agriculture and thanked the sponsors and all members for valiant effort to bring “Prosperity to Motherland”
