SLAGSC-SVU Ladies Do More Welfare Projects

The Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps - Seva Vanitha Unit (SLAGSC-SVU) organized a series of welfare and commemorative events to mark the International Women's Day on 09 April 2022 at the SLAGSC Regimental Headquarters in Panagoda.

SLAGSC Seva Vanitha members in coordination with Regimental Centre SLAGSC distributed school stationery packs, each worth of Rs. 2500.00 to 116 children belonging to civil staffers at the SLAGSC following leadership given by Mrs Eranga Hewawasam, Chairperson, SLAGSC-SVU.

On the same occasion, the Civil Staff at the SLAGSC were given 86 dry ration packs, each worth of Rs 4000.00 on account of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.

The Women's Day celebration program followed with more donations and welfare projects for needy families. Donation of 10 lamp wick producing machines, each worth of Rs. 3200.00 to spouses of Other Ranks who are expecting future self-employment, valuable gift packs for 20 children with special needs, a wheelchair to the beloved father of a Sergeant, and a financial donation of Rs 1 m for completion of partly-built house of an SLAGSC Corporal. The distribution took place at the SLAGSC auditorium.

Among special invitees to the occasion were Mrs Marina Abayakoon, the Founder of Marina Abay who contributed to the donation for children with special needs and Mrs Chathurika Kaluarachchi, a committee member of the SLAGSC-SVU who sponsored the wheelchair. Mr. Priyadarshana Benthota Arachchi, the Director of Herballine Cosmetics made the financial contribution to construct the new house for the beneficiary, the Corporal.

Mr Chandana Ekanayaka, Commissioner General of Prisons Department attended as the Chief Guest. Brigadier Palitha Hewawasam, Colonel Commandant SLAGSC, Centre Commandant, COs and Senior Staff Officers at Regimental Centre. Special Invitees, Members of Seva Vanitha Unit, Officers and Other Ranks, Civil Staff, and family members witnessed the series of welfare projects.
