ASVU Marks its 39th Anniversary Gifting Pregnant Army Women Soldiers

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), coincident with its 39th Anniversary distributed a stock of 50 essential ration packs and gift parcels among pregnant Army women soldiers, including Lady Officers on Wednesday (12) during a special ceremony that got underway at the Army HQ multi-function hall at the Army Headquarters.

Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU, the brainchild behind the project attended the occasion as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs Chama Wanasinghe, Secretary to the ASVU, several Senior ASVU members and the staff at the ASVU.

The ASVU President and a few ASVU senior members joined the award of those gift parcels to those 50 selected Army women who also afterwards sat for a group photograph with the ASVU President as a symbol of memory of the occasion and joined a lunch treat, hosted by the ASVU. ASVU Executive Committee members also added memories to the anniversary by sitting for a group photograph with the incumbent ASVU President.

On arrival of the ASVU President at the location, she was welcomed by the ASVU Secretary offering a bouquet of flowers. After lighting the traditional oil lamp, the day's agenda got to a start with the singing of the Army Seva Vanitha song, followed by a two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes. A short video film screened afterwards summed up the ASVU history of 39 years and its varied welfare services for the benefit of all Army personnel, the injured and family members of fallen War Heroes.

Gift parcels distributed at the occasion included all sanitary aids required for new-born babies and respective mothers. ASVU Coordinator, Brigadier N Mahavithana KSV Senior Officers and Chairpersons of all Seva Vanitha Branches were present at the event.
