ASVU Ladies with SLAWC Seva Vanitha Provide Essentials to 72 Pregnant Women Soldiers

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), in what could be regarded as a mega welfare project, together with the Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps Seva Vanitha Branch (SLAWC-SVB) and the SLAWC Regimental Headquarters sponsored the award of gift packs of essentials to 72 pregnant women soldiers serving in the SLAWC on Monday (08) during a ceremony, held at the SLAWC-Regimental HQ, Borella.

Those gift packs with essentials, each worth Rs 11,500/= contained babyware, soap, powder, baby cot mattress, roller pillows, linen, disinfectants, kids' aprons, feeding bottles, etc. and the project was conceptualized by Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU, together with Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, SLAWC Colonel Commandant and Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu.

Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU graced the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SLAWC Colonel Commandant and the SLAWC-SVB. The day’s Chief Guest on arrival was warmly welcomed by Mrs Shyamali Wijesekera, Chairperson, SLAWC-SVB and ushered to the place of distribution.

Lighting of the traditional oil lamp marked the beginning of the day's agenda where a detailed account of the project was presented. The welfare project benefited 72 women soldiers awaiting delivery.

After a while, the ASVU President declared open the newly-built beauty salon ‘Olive’ in the Regimental HQ premises which was built under the supervision of the SLAWC-SVB as an essential wing to the compound.

Towards the end, Brigadier J.K.R Jayakody RWP USP, Centre Commandant of the SLAWC presented a special memento to the day’s chief guest. Before her departure, she penned a few complimentary remarks in the SLAWC visitors’ book with a note of appreciation.
