SLSR-SVU Launches Womens Day Project

A ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment - Seva Vanitha Unit (SLSR-SVU) to mark international women’s day was held on 12 March 2022 at the Regimental Centre Ambepussa under the auspices of Mrs Darshani Liyange, Chairperson, SLSR-SVU.

The workshop was held at the main auditorium with the participation of Commander, Security Force - West and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Major General Kithsiri Liyanage as the Chief Guest. The Centre Commandant SLSR Regiment Centre, Brigadier Viraj Wimalasena, members of the SLSR-SVU, Officers and Other Ranks also joined the occasion.

The event got to a start after a video documentary on the SLSR was screened. A two-minute silence in a solemn ceremony saluted the memory of fallen SLSR War Heroes before the Coordinating Officer of the SLSR-SVU, Major Chandana Bowala delivered the welcome speech.

Later on, distinguished guests and the dignitaries joined the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by a welcome dance of the SLSR cultural team.

Afterwards, the veteran chef, Mr Manoj Amaradeepthi, a present employee at the Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa conducted a workshop for the Sinha Seva Vanitha members on cookery.

During the workshop, all those participants were educated on the preparations of ‘Chicken and Sweet Corn Soup’, ‘Caesar Salad’ and ‘Jaffna Crab Curry’ as home-based ventures.

The Director and Teledrama actor, Deshamanya Mr Nalaka Hapugoda entertained the audience adding colour to the day’s programme.

A senior counsellor, Trainer, and veteran lecturer Mrs Ama Dissanayake educated the participants on ‘The Role of Wife for Good Married Life’ and ‘How to mitigate the domestic issues’ as a part of the programme.

Presentation of mementos to invited lecturers took place afterwards in appreciation of their invaluable services to the SLSR-SVU. In addition, all the other members of the SLSR-SVU present on the occasion received a gift token for the Women’s Day celebration.

The programme culminated with the vote of thanks given by the Secretary, SLSR-SVU, Mrs Jeevani Wimalasena.
