The Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch (SLSR-SVB) organized a donation of school accessories for the children of fallen war heroes and deserving children among wounded war heroes, children of serving personnel and civil staffers of the SLSR on Monday (13) at the RHQ-SLSR in Ambepussa.
Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) graced as the Chief Guest of the programme at the invitation of Mrs Omila Jayawardena, Chairperson of SLSR-SVB.
This project was launched under the direction of Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Quarter Master General and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR. The project donated school bags and books for 1365 students among 595 families of SLSR members. The worth of this donation of Rs. 2,000,000/= was shared by Senior Officers, Officers of SLSR and the members of SLSR-SVB.
Chairperson SLSR-SVB welcomed the Chief Guest before Mrs Nethmini Muthumala, Secretary, SLSR-SVB delivered the welcome speech soon after the lighting of the traditional oil lamp to signify the inauguration of the event. 100 students received their consignment of school accessories during today's event from the Chief Guest and other senior officers and members of the SLSRSVB who had been present there.
In the meantime, President Army Seva Vanitha Branch visited the “Diriya Piyasa” project centre of the SLSR-SVB during her stay at the RHQ SLSR. At the end of the day’s programme, Mrs Janaki Liyanage made a complimentary note in the visitors' book. The Chairperson of SLSR-SVB awarded a special appreciative memento to the President, ASVU as a token of memory.
Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala, Centre Commandant, SLSR, Brigadier Nalindra Mahawithana, Brigadier Coordinating, ASVU, Deputy Centre Commandant, SLSR, Officers and Other Ranks attended the event.
