ASVU Spearheads Multiple Projects Inaugurating First Working Day in 2023

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at Sri Jayawardenepura Army Headquarters commenced duties for the New Year-2023 amid religious blessings and a series of welfare projects, organized at the ASVU office premises on Monday (2), headed by Mrs Chithrani Gunaratne, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence (SVU - MOD) and Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU at the Army Headquarters.

At the beginning of the programme, the Chief Incumbent at Kotte Sri Naga Viharaya, Ven Waturawila Siri Sujatha Thero and members of the Maha Sangha conducted religious rites and rituals and invoked blessings on all the ASVU members and the Army.

Afterwards, the Chairperson, SVU-MOD and the President, ASVU jointly gave away milk packets to the staff serving in the ASVU office. Simultaneously, a sum of Rs. 450,000.00 was donated to complete a partly-built house of a Senior Non Commissioned Officer of 8 Gajaba Regiment plus an electric wheelchair to another handicapped War Hero in the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment who sustained injuries during the battles against LTTE terrorists.

Later, the President, ASVU donated dry ration packs to 55 civil employees serving in island-wide Seva Vanitha Units under different Regimental branches after inviting a representative group to the occasion. At the same time, all Seva Vanitha Branches, in order to support the proposed animal husbandry project of goats of the Sri Lanka Army’s Corps of Agriculture and Livestock in Kandakadu and Kandy areas, presented a sum of Rs. 60,000.00 towards the total cost of the project (Rs. 1.4 m).

Moreover, Mrs Nandani Samarakoon, Chairperson, SLEME-SVB gifted a sum of Rs. 1 m to the ASVU welfare fund as a support for the ongoing projects of the ASVU.

Senior ASVU members, Colonel Coordinating, ASVU, Officers, Other Ranks and Civil Staff were present at the event.
