ASVU & SLACAL Seva Vanitha Induce Army Families for 'Goat Farming' Project

The Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch (SLACAL-SVB) initiated a project to promote awareness on 'goat farming' among members of the Army families as an alternative supportive mechanism for economic hardships on Monday (Jan 23) at the Sri Lanka Army Engineers Regimental auditorium at Panagoda.

The project was headed by Mrs Shanthi Abeysekera, Chairperson, SLACAL-SVB under the guidance of Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, who also attended the event as the chief guest.

This was made possible with the kind patronage offered by various donors under the coordination of SLACAL-SVB and its members including the support of officers, other ranks of the SLACAL and Seva Vanitha Branches of other regiments as instructed by the ASVU President.

The day’s itinerary began with observance of a two-minute silence remembering fallen war heroes and lighting of the traditional oil lamp. Afterwards, 17 selected families of other ranks and civil staff received symbolic contract papers after the short video clip was presented to the gathering which was made up of SLACAL-SVB activities carried out during the past year.

Reaching the culmination of the day's programme, Mrs Lakmali Darmawansha delivered the vote of thanks and a special memento was presented to the day’s chief guest by the chairperson, SLACAL-SVB.

Brigadier Bandula Bandara, Centre Commandant, SLACAL, Senior officers, members of SLACAL-SVB, members of SVBs of other regiments who supported, other ranks and beneficiaries were present at the simple event.
