In a profound act of compassion and solidarity, the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch – Sri Lanka National Guard (SVB-SLNG) Mrs Kumarie Pallekumbura, together with members of the Branch, undertook a special visit to the homes of SLNG soldiers severely affected by the recent adverse weather conditions.
A particularly tragic incident was the loss suffered by S/Q111341 Sergeant Ratnayake MDD of Ebbagamuwa, who lost his entire house due to the disaster. In this heartbreaking event, his wife and son tragically lost their lives, while his only daughter escaped narrowly, surviving the calamity under extremely distressing circumstances.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, the President and members of the SVB-SLNG visited the location where Sgt Ratnayake is currently staying. They personally inquired into his health, emotional state, and the immense suffering faced by him and his surviving daughter. During the visit, the SVB-SLNG team extended essential support by donating dry rations, hygiene items, and necessary materials required for the seven-day almsgiving, ensuring that the family receives both emotional and practical assistance during this sorrowful period.
Officers from the Regimental Headquarters – Sri Lanka National Guard (RHQ SLNG) also attended the visit, standing in solidarity with the bereaved family and offering their support.
This gesture by the President and members of the SVB-SLNG not only provided much-needed relief but also conveyed heartfelt compassion and strength to Sgt Ratnayake and his daughter. Their presence reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Sri Lanka National Guard to care for its soldiers and their families during moments of profound tragedy and hardship.
