Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG), along with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, were invited to inaugurate two new accommodation facilities at the SLNG Regimental HQ Battalion premises at Heraliyawala, Kurunegala, this evening (11 October).
Brigadier H.A. Keerthinatha RSP KSP psc, SLNG Centre Commandant, warmly welcomed the Commander of the Army upon his arrival at the camp premises, in accordance with military formalities.
First, the day's Chief Guest declared open and inspected the newly-erected accommodation facility (Dream House) for SLNG Other Ranks, consisting of a three-storey building that can accommodate 350 soldiers. He toured the building, inspecting all sections, and shared a few thoughts with the SLNG technical and engineering troops who worked hard to complete the modern facility. This Other Ranks’ accommodation facility which is comprised of novel amenities was accomplished in accordance with the Army Chief's vision to provide best welfare for troops.
Afterward, the Chief Guest participated in the donation of a wheelchair to a disabled soldier, Private P.H.S. Kumarawansa, who represents the Wheelchair Cricket Association of Sri Lanka. The soldier was especially appreciated for his perseverance and determination in continuing his service amidst the physical challenges endured due to the selfless sacrifices on the battlefield to ensure better tomorrow for the Nation.
Following the formal tea party, the Commander of the Army officially opened the Senior Officers' Accommodation (Mountain View) building, and commended the SLNG troops for their efforts and their successful completion of the project at a minimal cost.
Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the SLNG participated in the day's inaugurations.
