The Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) proudly marked its 35th anniversary on 1 November 2025 at the Regimental Centre SLNG, Kurunegala, with a series of commemorative and celebratory events held to celebrate this significant milestone in the Regiment's distinguished history.
The anniversary celebrations began with a War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony at the Regimental War Heroes Monument, where Major General P K W W M J S B W Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka National Guard and Commander Security Forces (East), along with Mrs. Kumari Pallekumbura, President of the SLNG Seva Vanitha Branch, Brigadier L. W. S. R. Wettasinghe, Centre Commandant of the SLNG, Colonel K.S.R Ranasinghe, Deputy Centre Commandant SLNG, Col R.B.C.U.K Rathnamalala, Col (A), laid floral wreaths in memory of the Officers and Other Ranks who made the ultimate sacrifice for the Motherland. The families of 82 fallen War Heroes, including parents, siblings, and spouses, also joined in paying heartfelt tributes to the brave sons of the Regiment.
In conjunction with the anniversary, a series of religious observances was organised to seek blessings on the Regiment and its members. A Pirith Chanting Ceremony was held on 29 October 2025, followed by an Alms Giving Ceremony for members of the Maha Sangha, and a multi-religious flag-blessing at the Kurunegala Hindu Kovil, Malay Jumma Mosque, and Our Lady of Fatima Church.
On the anniversary day, the Colonel of the Regiment was warmly received by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier L W S R Wettasinghe, and accorded a Guard Turnout. The Colonel of the Regiment then accepted the salute of the ceremonial parade, Commanded by Col S Rajapaksha comprising 19 Officers and 402 Other Ranks representing all esteemed battalions of the Regiment.
Following the parade, the proceedings continued with a group photograph with the Chief Guest, symbolizing unity, pride, and esprit Cooperation among all ranks of the Regiment.
The 35th Anniversary celebrations concluded with an All Ranks Lunch and a musical programme, graced by the Colonel of the Regiment, Members of the Regimental Council, Centre Commandant, and representatives from all SLNG battalions, marking a fitting end to the anniversary in an atmosphere of pride, camaraderie, and remembrance.
