Based on the noble concept of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, under the guidance of the President of Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the series of welfare programs implemented throughout the country on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army. To mark another milestone, according to the welfare concept of the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of SLEME Maj Gen SPAIMB Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc and the President of SLEME Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon, in order to realize their dream of housing for a needy and disabled family in Galewela area. The new house built for Mrs. HG Susila Navaratne and her family members at Bambaragaswewa village who were helpless and in a disabled condition. The house was handed over by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and Honorary President of the Army Seva Vanita Unit Mrs. Janaki Liyanage to the beneficiaries on 27th July 2024.
The noble act of building this house was built on a land donated by a compassionate lady at Galewela under the full supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of SLEME Maj Gen SPAIMB Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc and the President of SLEME Seva Vanitha branch Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon. With the generous contributions of the donors, the officers including the Commanding Officer of 3rd Battalion SLEME, and ORs’ full technical and labor contributions, within a short period of one month, the construction work was completed with water, electricity and all the necessary facilities for the household.
In parallel with the donation of the new house, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, Honorary President of Army Seva Vanita Unit, arranged to present essential electrical equipments and dry ration to the house, and Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon, the President of SLEME Seva Vanita Branch and other members of SLEME Seva Vanita Branch, necessary items for the house, food, as well as school bags, books, stationaries and valuable gift vouchers for the education of Mrs. HG Susila Navaratne's children were arranged.
For this proud occasion, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Honorary President of the Army Seva Vanitha unit, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, Deputy Chief of Army Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of SLEME Maj Gen SPAIMB Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, the Honorary President of SLEME Seva Vanitha branch Mrs Nandanee Samarakoon, Senior Members of SLEME Seva Vanitha branch, the Centre Commandant, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Local Government officials as well as family members and a large number of villagers also participated in the event.
