The Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Regimental Centre had been located in a verry limited space at Kumaran Rathnam Mawatha, Colombo 02, since 1950. However due to insufficient space and the ongoing development of colombo as a commercial hub, the relocation of military camps in the area become inevitable.
Under the guidance of the commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and with the leadership of Deputy Chief of Staff and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Major General SPAIMB Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc a new camp site was allocated for the SLEME Regimental Centre at the Kosgama Camp Premises.
In a ceremony held at 10:14 a.m. on 11 November 2024. The Deputy Chief of Staff and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers oficially raised the regimental flag at the new site.
Following this, at the auspicious time of 10:37 a.m. a commemorative plaque was unveiled by the Commander of the Army to mark the opening of the new regimental headquarters.
The Commander of the Army, who graced the occation as the chief guest, was warmly welcomed by senior officers, officers, other ranks and civil servants. After unveiling the commemorative plaque. The Commander of the Army planted a tree and a photograph was taken to commemorative the event.
The Commander of the Army delivered an inspiring address to all ranks and the event concluded with a delightful tea party where senior officers, officers, other ranks and civil servants extended their hospitality to all dignitaries including the Commander of the Army.
