Under the directions of Major General T.A. Peiris, ptsc, the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) a series of grand ceremonies marking the prestigious 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Regiment were held at the Regimental Headquarters from 09 to 20 December 2024.
The celebrations began with a Pirith Chanting Ceremony and Heel Dana (Morning alms giving) to the Maha Sangha, seeking blessings from the Triple Gem for the fallen War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Nation while wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded War Heroes, and well-being for all serving and retired Officers, Other Ranks, civilian staff and their families.
As part of the Regimental Day events, a ceremonial parade was held showcasing the pride of the Regiment. This was followed by the launching of commemorative postage stamp and 1st day cover to mark the 75th Anniversary.
After, the All Ranks Lunch, an evening musical concert was held adding a vibrant to the celebrations. During this event, soldiers who achieved national sporting victories on behalf of the Regiment were honoured with cash awards.
In line with 75th Regimental Anniversary, a special dinner was held on 18 December 2024, at the SLEME WOs' & Sgts' Mess. The event was graced by the Colonel Commandant as the Chief Guest, with the Centre Commandant, other Senior Officers, and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers.
Additionally, on 20 December 2024, a special event organized to distribute books & scholarships among the children of Army families at the RHQ SLEME. This programme was held under the leadership of the Chairperson of the SLEME Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Apsara Peiris.
