The 72nd Manusat Derana Community Care Service Program jointly organized by SLEME Seva Vanitha Branch and Derana Media Network

The Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of SLEME Maj Gen SPAIMB Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc and the Honorary President of SLEME Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon, to uplift the welfare of army officers and civil servants and their families, the 72nd Community Care Service Program of Derana Media Network was successfully held on 27 July 2024 at Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya Premises of Galewela with the organization of Corps of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The Honorary President of the Army Seva Vanitha unit, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage attended as the Chief Guest, and the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu participated as the Guest of Honour.

Accordingly, Under the relevant community care service program, the following community services were organized from Manusat Derana on that day.

  • Conducting 850 primary renal tests. 450 free spectacles for eye examination. Perform 150 fasting cholesterol tests. Testing fasting blood sugar. (for 150 people) Examination of the lungs. (for 300 people) Providing sets of sports equipment for two schools in the area Donation of a water filter for the use of teachers and students of Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya. Selection of 100 local youths for job opportunities in Japan under the auspices of KIU Institute.
  • Implementation of a one-day service program for the preparation of national identity cards from the Department of Registration of Persons.

    Also, in addition to the above community care services, the following donation programs were arranged to provide welfare benefits to the people of that area with the contribution of the Army.

  • Donation of 150 sets of school shoes for students studying in 08 difficult schools in the area. Donation of parcels containing dry ration to 400 poor families in the area. Donation of dry ration parcels containing nutritional food to 20 pregnant mothers in the area. Renovation of music room of Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya and providing musical instruments worth around Rs. 300,000.00. Donation of blood to the National Blood Bank together with the members of the Army and the civilians of the area. Conduct a dental clinic for those with dental diseases in the area.
  • Organized by the Corps of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and the SLEME Seva Vanitha Branch in association with Derana Media Channel, the inauguration of this event was started by lighting coconut oil lamps according to the traditions and the aims and objectives of the program were briefed by announcers. After that, one minute silence was observed in memory of the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country after Army Seva Vanitha song.

    The first way to give the donations was the beautiful performances presented by the students of Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya, and then the donation started to be given individually. In the first instance, two sets of sports equipment were presented to Silwatgala Maha Vidyalaya and Moragolla Maha Vidyalaya by Manusat Derana, and a water filter was donated to Hombawa Maha Vidyalaya by Aqulife Water Company.

    On the second occasion of the program, Symbolizing the donation of valuable sets of school shoes for 150 students studying in 08 difficult schools, school shoes were presented to 20 students representing those schools by The Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of SLEME and the Honorary President of SLEME Seva Vanitha branch.

    After that, 20 of the people who came to get spectacles were presented by the Honorary President of Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit, and 10 pregnant mothers who were gifted with noble motherhood to give birth to a healthy child to the future world were donated 10 ration bags with nutritional food with the fullest support of Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and 10 dry ration bags were distributed for symbolizing the offering of 400 ration bags for poor families selected from the Gramseva Domains in the area under the patronage of the. Also, a total of 10 parcels of food including dry rations, which were given with the full support of the Army Women's Service Units, were distributed to 400 poor families selected from the Gramseva Domains in the area under the patronage of the Honorary President of Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

    The Guest of Honor at the donation ceremony was the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, who presented musical instruments worth over Rs.300,000.00 to Silwatgala Maha Vidyalaya and 10 dry ration bags for poor families and 10 bags with nutritional food were donated by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and the President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

    During the endowment ceremony, the Little Stars who show their talents in various stages in 'Derana Little Star' were given opportunity to show their talents in front of the festival assembly, and the festival was colored by their melodious singing and the music of SLEME band.

    At the last stage of the ceremony, completely repaired, dilapidated music room of Silvangala Maha Vidyalaya by the full technical and labor contribution of the Commanding Officer, Officers and Other Ranks of 5th Battalion SLEME was handed over to the students of Silvathgala Maha Vidyalaya by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and the President of Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Janaki Liyanage.

    At the end of the programme, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army made an observation visit to the school premises where the community care services were being run, and had a friendly conversation with the civilians who had come to get results from the programme.

    Senior members of SLEME Seva Vanitha Branch, Derana Media Network and Manusat Derana Members, Medical Staff Members, Senior Officers, Officers, Heads of Government and Non-Government Institutions, School Children as well as a large number of local residents were participated.
