Monthly Meeting Highlights of Army Seva Vanitha Unit

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) held its monthly meeting on 28 October 2024 at Army Headquarters, with Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons, Executive Board Members, and Senior Members. Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of ASVU, chaired the meeting, which began with the ASVU song and a two-minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes. A documentary showcasing ASVU’s service activities was also displayed.

In her address, President of ASVU outlined upcoming ASVU projects, emphasizing the importance of ongoing welfare activities. Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon, Secretary of ASVU, read the previous meeting’s minutes, while Major P.G.P.C Kumari, ASVU treasurer, presented the audit report.

Continuing the welfare initiatives, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage distributed cash incentives of Rs. 600,000 each to three soldiers from the Gemunu Watch Regiment and Rs. 350,000 to a civil servant for new home construction. Additionally, Rs. 450,000 each was given to four serving members, and Rs. 300,000 to another civil recipient for partially completed home construction. Further assistance included Rs. 100,000 for medical treatment for the spouse of Lance Corporal R.A.S.P. Ranasinghe of the 3rd Battalion, Gemunu Watch, and Rs. 100,000 to Sergeant K.A.D.S.D. Munsinghe of Gemunu Watch for his third child.

To support soldiers and staff amid economic challenges, ASVU provided dry ration packs to soldiers from the Gemunu Watch Regiment and 30 civil employees, along with school supplies for the children of 30 soldiers.

The meeting concluded with the national anthem, after which participants enjoyed refreshments and Mrs. Janaki Liyanage engaged in cordial interactions with the members.
