The Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) Regimental Centre, together with 2 SLCMP troops in remembrance of one of their late Corporals who passed away in a road accident in 2020 while serving the 2 SLCMP erected a new house to the widow and two children of the deceased in Anguruwella area and ceremonially vested it in the family on Friday (8 September).
Late Corporal G.M.R.S Abeyrathna’s widow received the keys for the new house and several gift packs from Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, Colonel Commandant, SLCMP and Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army during the brief ceremony in the presence of her son (7 years) and the daughter (3 years).
Late Corporal G.M.R.S Abeyrathna of 2 SLCMP, unexpectedly passed away on 7 May 2020 due to a road accident and was without a suitable dwelling for the family.
The housing project with two bed rooms, a dining hall, a kitchen and a bathroom was undertaken by technically qualified SLCMP, Corps of Engineer Service Regiment with the main sponsorship, provided by Canada-based Mrs Chamila Jayathillake and her husband, Mr Sonders Jayathillake.
With the blessing of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, this house construction project was concluded under the directions of the Provost Marshal of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police Major for the benefit of late SLCMP soldier.
Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, together with Mrs Priyanthika De Zoysa, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police Seva Vanitha Branch also jointly contributed with required monetary assistance and essential household items.
In addition, all SLCMP Commanding Officers, including the Commandant, School of Military Police also provided assistance to the project in multiple ways during the house construction project.
The directions of the previous Commanding Officers of 2 SLCMP, Lieutenant Colonel R Withanaarachchi USP Lsc, Lieutenant Colonel N.P.E.N Nerangama USP Lsc and the incumbent Commanding Officer, 2 SLCMP, Major K.N Indrajith USP Lsc enabled the successful completion of the project.
Members of the SLCMP Seva Vanitha Branch, Council Members, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks participated in the warming ceremony.
