The Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch (SLEME-SVB) enhancing their welfare roles further gave away scholarships and school equipment, worth about Rs 4.4 m to 2702 students in SLEME families on Tuesday (29) during a ceremony at the Defence Services College Auditorium at Colombo 2.
During the programme, 25 students who passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination 2021 were given scholarships in addition to a separate scholarship that was given to one student who has been selected to the university.
This mega project was spearheaded by Mrs Nandani Samarakoon, Chairperson, SLEME-SVB under the guidance of Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), and with the support of other senior SLEME-SVB members.
A representative group of 54 students participated in the project considering transport difficulties. Major General Indu Samarakoon, Colonel Commandant, SLEME, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present at the event.
Moreover, during the event, Mr. Samantha Hewageegana, Chairman, Amila Tyres (pvt) Ltd offered Rs. 500,000/= for a deserving Senior Non Commissioned Officer to complete his partly-built house.
