Books and stationeries, worth over Rs 4 million were distributed among school-going children of soldiers and civil staff who are serving the Special Forces Regiment on Monday (Dec 19) at the Special Forces Regimental Centre in Naula following an initiative, taken by Mrs Nayani Samanthi Senarath Yapa, Chairperson, Special Forces Seva Vanitha Branch (SF-SVB).
This was made possible with the sponsorship, provided by Mr Madhawa Thenuwara, a generous entrepreneur and his spouse, Mrs Sandya Thenuwara.
Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment and the Chairperson, SF-SVB, graced the event as Chief Guests, together with Mr and Mrs Thenuwara as special guests for the occasion upon the invitation of the Chairperson.
During the distribution ceremony, Colonel of the Regiment, SF appreciated the donors and the family on behalf of the Special Forces Regiment and presented a token of appreciation to Mr Thenuwara as a symbol of memory.
Major General Chandimal Peiris, General Officer Commanding, 57 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and beneficiaries were present at the event.
