In a mammoth welfare project launched by the Sri Lanka Signal Corps Seva Vanitha Branch (SLSC- SVB), a record 1500 school-goers in families of SLSC Other Ranks and Civil Staffers received school accessories and stationeries to the value of Rs 4 million during a cremony that got underway on Saturday (8) at the SLSC Regimental Centrer at Panagoda.
Considering constraints and health concerns, 52 students of those families includng three Grade 5 scholarship achievers attended the occasion which was presided by Mrs Janaki Liyange, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Mrs. J A Sashika Herath, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Signal Corps Seva Vanitha Branch to coincide with both the Children's Day and the Army Day on Monday (10).
It was pure coincidence that the Chief Guest, Mrs Janaki Liyanage was ushered to sit, adjacent to her own sister, Mrs. Ganga Herath, an Executive Member in the SLSC-SVB who is also the spouse of Brigadier Ravi Herath, Director, Directorate of Media of the Army.
The event was sponsored through funds raised by all the members of the SLSC-SVB in the recent past after launch of multifaceted fund-raising projects.
The Chief Guest gave away those incentives to the beneficiaries and extended her best wishes to them. Several dancing and other aesthetic features coloured the day's event.
