The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) HQ at Dambuluhalmillawewa, which has launched a project to build new houses for deserving MIR Other Ranks completed and warmed one more new house for a deserving Corporal in the MIR at Kosgoda, Ambalangoda on Sunday (2).
The project, kicked off following a conceptual notion of the Colonel of the Regiment, MIR and Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, aims to build five new houses under the phase I of the housing project.
This newly-constructed second house under the same project was ceremonially warmed by Mrs Danusha Weerasuriya, Chairperson, MIR Seva Vanitha Branch, together with Brigadier A.M.A Abeysinghe, Centre Commandant, MIR Regimental Centre, representing the Colonel of the Regiment. The MIR Seva Vanitha Branch extended its financial support for the project too.
The beneficiary, a soldier in the 1 MIR who has financial difficulties was selected after close supervision under this project. His own Regiment troops using locally available raw materials provided manpower with technical and engineering skills for construction of the new house.
The house warming ceremony at Kosgoda was attended by Mrs Swarnamali Ekanayaka, Secretary, MIR Seva Vanitha Branch, Executive Committee Members of the MIR Seva Vanitha Branch, Commanding Officer, 1 MIR, Lieutenant Colonel A.C.R Thilakarathne along with other Senior Officers.
