To coincide with the 34th anniversary of the Gemunu Watch (GW) Regiment, Chairperson, Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Unit (GW-SVU), Mrs Geetha Athukorala launched several welfare programmes, including distribution of medical accessories, scholarships and award of cash gifts to family members of GW War Heroes on Saturday (19).
Accordingly, medical equipment and accessories were gifted to Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, Delapanagama Primary Medical Centre and medical centres at GW HQ battalion and the GW Regimental Centre at Kuruwita.
During the programme, a monthly cash grant of Rs 5000/= was awarded to two ailing children of a Sergeant in 23 Gemunu Watch and another Sergeant of 8 GW and the grant will continue until their recovery. Similarly, four more financial grants of Rs 5000/= for a period of 12 months were awarded to three children of a Lance Corporal in 19 GW, three children of a Lance Corporal of 15 (V) GW. Meanwhile, medical assistance to children of a Lance Corporal of 23 GW and the son of a Private were awarded cash grants on the same occasion.
Major General Lal Chandrasiri, Colonel of the Regiment, GW and Commander Security Forces - East, Mrs Geetha Athukorala, Chairperson, GW-SVU, Senior GW Officers and Seva Vanitha members together with Other Ranks joined the occasion.
