FIRST GROUP OF WOMEN SOLDIERS OF UNIFIL PRESENTED THE CUSTOMARY SALUTE TO THE ARMY CHIEF.

Women soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps bound for the United Nation Interim Force in Lebanon presented the customary salute to the head of the organization General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army on 30th January 2022 at Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Headquarters , Panagoda.

Lebanon bound Sri Lanka's Force Protection Unit contingent is comprised of 10 officers and 115 Other Ranks and this is the first IINIFIL bound group that includes one lady officer and seven Other Ranks of the SLAWC. They were trained to take up the security duties in Lebanon's SLFPU, as a result of discussion that took place between UN authorities and the Commander of the Army.

Therefore this mark another golden milestone in the history of Women's Corps as this is the first and rare opportunity that women soldiers got the opportunity to participate for UN missions.

The Colonel Commandant and A11 Ranks of SLAWC extend their best wishes for all women soldiers of UNIFIL group for their future endeavors.
