Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps conducted a Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival (Bakmaha Ulela) at Borella RC SLAWC premises with all Officers, Other Ranks, family members and civil employees on 11 April 2023. The festival was filled with a number of Sinhala and Tamil traditional events, Tug-of-war, Selection of the “Avurudu Kumari” (New Year Princess), eye- placing on the elephant, bun-eating and several other games.
Major General UD Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc Commander, Security Forces – Mulativu and the Colonel Commandant of SLAWC, Mrs Shyamali Wijesekera, President of SLAWC Seva Vanitha Branch attended as the Chief Guest and gave away gift and incentives to the winners of the games and competition. The event was organized by the RC SLAWC together with 1SLAWC under the direction of Major General Darshana Wijesekera Colonel Commandant of SLAWC.
Subsequently, civil employees serving the regimental center and 1SLAWC were given specially dry ration packs and gift parcels by Major General Drashana Wijesekera, ,Mrs. Shyamali Wijesekera and Brigadier Rohan Jayakody SLAWC Centre Commandant in a special gesture during the ceremony.
