'PIRITH' & ALMS-GIVING AT SLAWC REGIMNTAL CENTRE BORELLA BLESS VIHARAMAHADEVIANS’ 26TH ANNIVERSARY

The ‘Pirith’ chanting and offer of alms, the forerunner to the 26th anniversary commemoration of the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (RC SLAWC) Regimental Day (17 November) got underway at the ‘Regimental Centre of Viharamahadevians’ at Borella during 11 November with the participation of Major General Darshana Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Colonel Commandant of SLAWC and Commander SLAVF ,Mrs Shyamali Wijesekera President of SLAWC Seva Vanitha Branch ,Senior Officers, Other Ranks and a representative gathering of invitees.

A colour-rich procession, composed of traditional dancers, together with the sacred relic casket (Karanduwa) and the book of old scriptures (Pirivana Potha) ushered venerable members of the Maha Sangha to the respective place where chanting took place on Saturday morning (11 November) after a customary oration (Anushasana) was delivered by the senior Buddhist monk in the group who immensely praised to the Colonel Commandant & all ranks of the RC SLAWC.

Venerable members of the Maha Sangha also invoked blessings on all fallen and wounded War Heroes and the Regiment for its future prospects. With the offer of ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) to the monks ,the religious segment of the anniversary celebrations culminates. A large gathering of Senior Officers including, SLAWC Centre Commandant, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the 'Pirith' chanting ceremony.
