INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT 7TH BATTALION SRI LANKA ARMY WOMEN’S CORPS

International women’s day was celebrated on 08th March 2023 by the entire women cadre, who are presently deployed at Security Forces (Jaffna) with the incenting of collaboration among them on the theme of “She is the pride of the Nation”.

Lady Officers and lady soldiers representing other regiments in the programme and the troops were addressed by the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Swarna Bothota at the same time. He emphasized the importance of Women’s Day and how a lady soldier should perform her duties in her military career. Further, a fruitful lecture was conducted by the Chief Inspector of Police from Kankasanthurai Police Station on women’s rights and child rights with the presence of 09 x 205 troops.

Moreover, with the contribution of several units and under the supervision of the 7th Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, a vegetables /fruit carving competition and a handicraft design competition were held at the battalion premises. At the end of the competition, prizes were awarded to the winners with the purpose of encouraging them.

In parallel to the series of programme a volleyball tournament was held on 6th March 2023 at the gymnasium with the participation of 9 x teams who presently perform duties in Security Forces (Jaffna). Major General Swarna Bothata, Commander of the Security Forces (Jaffna) and Mrs Dr. Harshani Bothota the president of SLAC Seva Vanitha Branch graced the tournament as Chief Guests.

International women’s day 2023 celebrations came to an end with a colorful musical show and Major General Swarna Bothota and Mrs Dr. Harshani Bothota were present on the occasion.
