INTER REGIMENT NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 FINALS PLAYED AT THE PANAGODA

The Commander Security Forces (West) and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Major General U.D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc as the Chief Guest in the finals and awarding ceremony of the Inter Regiment Netball Championship at Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium gave away meddles and certificates to the achievers on 22 Friday.

The championship tournament was competed by 6 Netball teams, including 2 teams of the Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (SLAWC), 1 team of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), 1 team of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), 1 team of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) and 1 team of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC).

The day’s Chief Guest was welcomed by Brigadier J.K.R. Jayakody RWP USP, Chairman, Army Netball Committee and Centre Commandant, SLAWC before the day’s proceedings got to a start with singing of the Army song and observance of the two-minute silence for War Heroes before the brief welcome speech was delivered.

The finals were played between the SLAWC’s ‘A’ team and the SLAWC’s ‘B’ team amid cheers and applause. At the end, SLAWC’s ‘A’ carried away the Championship after a neck-to-neck encounter scored the victory to 28/16 qualifying to claim the Championship for the year. The day’s Chief Guest extended congratulations and gave away the meddles and other merit awards.

Senior Officers including Brigadier Anil Peiris RSP USP psc, Director Sports of Sri Lanka Army, all Centre Commandants along with Senior Officers and Other Ranks of respective regiments were at the stadium to watch the finals.
