Inter Regiment Netball Championship-2022 held at Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening (30). Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu witnessed the finals as the Chief Guest. The Tournament got underway from 22 June 2022 to 30 June 2022 with the participants of seven teams.
At the main entrance, the Commander of the Army and his spouse Mrs Janaki Liyanage were welcomed by Brigadier Chaminda Thibbotuge, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Netball Association and conducted to the pavilion before finalists were introduced to the Commander.
Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ‘A’ and ‘B’ Teams competed each other in the finals in an impressive manner, but the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ‘A’ Team players after a neck-to-neck encounter scored the victory to 21/15 qualifying to claim the Championship for the year.
At the end the Commander of the Army and Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Wanitha Unit joined the award of trophies to the winners in all categories and the winning teams are as follows.
I. Championship - Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ‘A’ Team II. Runners Up - Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ‘B’ Team III. Second Runners Up - Sri Lanka Signal Corps Team IV. Netball Queen - Captain PMS Abeygunawardhane SLAWC V. Best Upcoming Player - Copral Aanha GCM ( SLAMC) VI. Best Defence - Seargent Wijesinghe WGK VII. Best Center Court Player - Lance Copral Weerasuriya PAUM VIII. Best Shooter - Recruit Jayasekara SMAS
