The second and third phases of the 99th National Athletic Championship was held on 30th and 31st October 2021 at the Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo. The first phase of the championship was held in May 2021 and the second and third phases postponed due to Covid – 19 pandemic. This event was held by targeting the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.
By defeating over 300 athletes in the event, athletes of SLAWC were able to highlighted the Regiment by depicting their best performances. The National Sri Lankan Record and a National Meet Record was set by long jumper S/2014 VFRD 86401 Rec Silva SLS who shattered her own record clearing 6.48 meters.
S/2014 VFRD 86401 Rec Silva SLS is a proud product of Sri Sumangala College ,Panadura and she has been recognized as the number 01 National Long Jumper along with National Record Holder. In 99th National Athletic Championship she was able to renew her own record with 0.44 meters extend.
Moreover, S/R 100061 Cpl Sugandi WVL from 2nd Battalion of SLAWC was able to gain two gold medals from 100 meters Hurdles and Heptathlon. Further S/725333 WO II Rathnayake UKN -7 SLAWC, S/4R01429 Cpl Lekamgae HLND -4(v) SLAWC, S/R 101648 Cpl Nadeesha R – 5(v) SLAWC, S/R 100628 L/Cpl Amarasinghe AWASM -3(v) SLAWC, S/725721 Pte Dilrukshi HAM -1 SLAWC, S/2014 VFRD 95168 Rec Coorey VRH -5(v) SLAWC and S/2014 VFRD 86398 Rec Madushani EK -5(v) SLAWC were able to gain gold medals.
