"EXCELLENCE THROUGH PROFESSIONALISM"

SCHOOL OF ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

Since 1st October 1951, out of the three sections of the SLEME Regiment one of the sections was vocational school. In the past for the development of knowledge of Craftsman and to hold professional oriented examinations EME Vocational School and the Vocational Examination Centre were shifted from the army premises to Parsons road, Regimental Centre premises where the transport section was located.

The school of EME new sections of repairing weapons, vehicles and sensitive equipment were established with a library, Headquarter building and the Officers' Mess with the initiation of Maj T N Jayasuriya after April 1996. A War Heroes Memorial was created in the EME School facing the main road in the year of 1999 with concurrent to the 50th corps day.

An official badge was designed under the supervision of then commandant Maj A D Elwatte after receiving the permission from AHQ due to the lack of recognition for the officers and NCOs who was serving in the EME School was highlighted in many aspects.

Year 2008 was great milestone for the school as it was given the recognition as a "C" grade training school by Tertiary and Vocational Commission. As a result, the soldiers who followed the course got the opportunity to face the NVQ exams directly. In the year 2011 Director Training highly recognized the leadership training given by the EME School to the students who were qualified for university entrance. After that EME School updated and modified the curriculum and the training facilities in training sections in order to gain the international recognition. As a result of that in 2017, the school was qualified to issue NVQ level 4 certificates for the welding course. In the following year the school was able to give NVQ level 4 for the Automobile Mechanic, Automobile Electrician and Automobile Tinker courses.

By the end of year 2019, with the contribution of 7 Officers and 137 Other Ranks, over 50 training courses were held as in year basis. Therefore, the EME School still contributes greatly in developing the knowledge of EME Officers and Other Ranks and it will do same in future.
