HISTORY OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY PIONEER CORPS

The SLAPC was raised on 5th July 1959 with the strength of over 10000 ORs to carried out duties and keep maintain essential service of Colombo Port while on General strike.

When the Strike was over Tps deployed at various places for National requirement especially Sugar Factories at Kantale and Ampara.

No 11798 and dated 5th July 1959 special gazette issued for the establishment of SLAPC as a unit of Sri Lanka army volunteer force.

11/70 special Army orders issued from Army HQ the Pioneer Corps transfer under command of the Commandant of the SLAPC.

51/89 Army behaviors orders for Pioneer Corps establishment in 1989 under the unit of Sri Lanka Volunteer force. Now under command by SLAPC.
