Colonel IDD Fernando assumed duties as the 2nd Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps on the 18th of September 2020 at Headquarters Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps, Pelawaththa, Mathugama.

Programme for assuming duties inaugurated with reviewing the Guard Turnout. As a symbolizing gesture of taking over the command, Col IDD Fernando placed his signature for a formal document after a brief religious observance. The day's event itinerary was included the planting of a mango sapling, troops address and all ranks tea at the ORs' Mess.

The event was organized in strict compliance with all precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of Covid 19.
