The troops of 53 Infantry Division contribute to the National Vaccination Drive Against COVID - 19 pandemic under the programme of “Vaccination Week”. This programme was commenced on 30 January 2022 targeting the community around where the divisional troops are deployed. In that, Divisional troops belong to Headquarters 53 Infantry Division (RSF), Airmobile Brigade, 532 Infantry Brigade and 533 Infantry Brigade have conducted the vaccination programme. Vaccination centers are established at Yapagama Sumangalapura Samithi Shalawa, Kapuwatta Temple - Dambulla (53 Inf Div - 304 persons were vaccinated), Sri Sudarshanaramaya, Pannalagama, Ampara (4 SLLI - 129 persons were vaccinated), Mihinthalaya (6 SLLI - 130 persons were vaccinated), Haddaharadamadu Gramaniladari Office (24 SLLI - 126 persons were vaccinated), Bodirukkatharama Temple, Kirinda, Bodirukkatharama Temple, Therulla (12 SLSR - 216 persons were vaccinated), Mahinda Rajapacksha Conference hall, Wellawaya (5 GW - 120 persons were vaccinated), Thiruwaiaru Praja Shalawa (3 GR - 108 persons were vaccinated), Hindu National Collage, Matale (8 GR - 354 persons were vaccinated) and Army Camp Saliyapura (22 GR - 300 persons were vaccinated) areas. The programme was initiated on the direction of the Commander 1 Corps and under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding 53 Infantry Division (RSF). Mobile awareness announcements also have been executed prior to vaccination which helped to attract more people.
