THE 58 INFANTRY DIVISION CELEBRATED ITS 13TH ANNIVERSARY DAY

The 58 Division which was established during the Wanni humanitarian operation on 03 January 2009 celebrated its 13th anniversary in a charm ceremony on 02 & 03 January 2022 at Division Headquarters Puttalam with series of events. The celebration commenced on 02 January with Alms Giving for 70 Buddhist monks at Sri Gnanodaya Pirivena in Kiula – Puttalam, remembering fallen heroes of 58 Infantry Division. followed by a Bodhi Pooja on the same evening at Sinnawillu Watta Camp premises.

Customary, a ceremonial Guard turnout was presented by the troops of 6th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment to General Officer Commanding 58 Infantry Division Major General Rohitha Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc in the morning on 03 January 2022.

The GOC addressed the troops formally, followed by the government servant oath of the first working day of the year 2022, which was fallen on to the same day. Division was fortunate enough to announce the new year message sent by the Commander of Army at same instance, who was the first GOC of the 58 Division.

On auspicious time, the GOC ceremonially unveiled the opening plaque of the newly constructed “PITSTOP 58” Restaurant & Grocery. In order to mark the opening of the restaurant and 13th anniversary of the 58 Infantry Division a delicious and dainty tea was served to all ranks at the PITSTOP 58 Restaurant.

A large quantity of medical personal protective equipment received from Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, was donated to Puttalam base hospital, inline with the 13th anniversary day of the 58 Infantry Division. Items were handed over to Hospital Superintendent Dr Arjuna Dushantha by GOC at the base hospital Puttalam.
