THE VISIT OF COMMANDER 1 CORPS TO THE 5 GW

The Commander 1 Corps, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndc made his maiden visit to the 5th Battalion Gamunu Watch, an Air Mobile Battalion at Wellawaya after the establishment of 1 the Corps. The visit became a significant one as 5 GW being the mother unit of him which groomed him as young officer during his short spell at the unit before joining the Special Forces.

On his arrival to the Unit a drive past was accorded and the Commanding Officer of 5 GW, Lieutenant Colonel Lasantha Deepal along with Officers of his unit warmly received the visiting Commander, 1 Corps. In line with formalities Commander 1 Corps was invited to leave memories by planting a sapling in Battalion Headquarters premises. Later a comprehensive briefing was conducted by the Commanding Officer on his deployment and operational commitments. Whilst appreciating their commitments Commander 1 Corps provided necessary guidance for future operational and administrative activities. Later the Commander 1 Corps addressing the troops highlighted the expected readiness level and important points related to military professionalism.

Towards the end of the visit, a group photograph was taken and Major General Harendra Ranasinghe was awarded a memento by the Commanding Officer, 5GW. Major General Sanjeewa Fenando RWP RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division, Brigadier Subath Sanjeewa RSP psc, Brigade Commander Air Mobile Brigade and Colonel Kaminda Silva RSP USP psc, Colonel General Staff 1 Corps also took part at the event. The visit was conducted adhering to COVID-19 preventive measures.
