TROOPS AVERTED SPLITS IN PERIYAMADU TANK BUND

3 Officers and 20 Army personnel of the 3rd Battalion of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the 53 Infantry Division of the 1 Corps on 27 Nov 2024 morning at the request of the Mannar Disaster Management Centre promptly secured the Periyakulam tank bund which were threatened with outburst due to soaring water levels in the tanks.

Under the guidance of Commander 1 Corps, Major General MTI Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc and the General Officer Commanding of 53 Infantry Division, Major General KHMS Wickrmarathna RSP, according to the instructions given by the Commander of Airmobile Brigade, those troops after placing sandbags around threatened patches averted a major split in bund which could have been disastrous unless addressed.

Hundreds of families living in those low-level areas praised and extended gratitude them for their timely action that had helped them enormously.
