OFFICIAL VISIT OF CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF TO 1 CORPS

General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, The Chief of Defence Staff made a formal visit to 1 Corps, Kilinochchi on 14 October 2022.

On his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Major General Crishantha Ghanarathna, Commander of 1 Corps, and was accorded with a ceremonial drive pass, presented by troops of 3 GR.

Beginning of the programme, formation commanders of 1 Corps and Staff of 1 Corps were appeared for group photographs with the Chief of Defence Staff before he marked his visit to 1 corps by planting a sapling at the Headquarters premises.

Thereafter, the Chief of Defence Staff addressed the troops of the 1 Corps at “Nelum Piyasa” in Kilinochchi. During the address he emphasized his feelings about the commendable job done by troops of 1 Corps during the difficult situation took place in the country during recent pass. Furthermore, he conveyed his gratitude to all troops who engaged in numerous operations during the Covid 19 pandemic situation too. Subsequent to the troops address, mementoes were exchanged to make this event memorable. At the end of the day the Chief of Defence Staff recalled some past memories at the informal discussion with the formation commanders of 1 Corps before pen down the note of appreciation in the visitor’s book.

Major General Udaya Herath RWP RSP USP psc Hdmc , General Officer Commanding of 53 Infantry Division, Major General Vipula Ihalage RWP RSP psc, General Officer Commanding of 58 Infantry Division, senior staff officers of Headquarters 1 Corps, brigade commanders, commanding officers, staff officers /other officers and other ranks of Headquarters and under command formations of 1 Corps attended for the event.
