Under the guidance of Commander 1 Corps, Major General MTI Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc and the General Officer Commanding of 53 Infantry Division, Major General KHMS Wickrmarathna RSP, according to the instructions given by the Commander 532 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier CP Wickramarathna RSP USP and Commanding Officer of 8 GR, Maj SDG Wisidagama RSP USP troops of 8th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment took part in the Disaster Rescue Operations at General area Ovilikanda, Matale on 26 Nov 2024.
A house collapsed following heavy rainfall, leaving its residents in urgent need of assistance. Responding swiftly to the crisis, a dedicated team from the 8th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment, led by an officer and supported by eight skilled Army personnel, stepped in to aid the affected residents. Their prompt and tireless efforts were instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of the displaced individuals while actively supporting recovery operations. Through their commitment and teamwork, they brought much-needed relief and hope to the community during this challenging time.
Further, a massive tree had fallen across the Kirimetiywa–Makulemada road, creating significant obstacles and inconveniences for the public. Demonstrating swift action, troops from the Battalion promptly responded to the situation. With skill and determination, they worked tirelessly to remove the fallen tree and restore access to the road. Their timely intervention not only ensured the resumption of normal traffic flow but also minimized disruptions, bringing much-needed relief to the local community.
