Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps conducted a Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival (Bakmaha Ulela) at Borella RC SLAWC premises with all Officers, Other Ranks, family members and civil employees on 03 April 2024. The festival was filled with a number of Sinhala and Tamil traditional events including Tug-of-war, Selection of the “Avurudu Kumari” (New Year Princess), eye- placing on the elephant, bun-eating and several other games.
Mrs Nayomi Gunaratne, President of SLAWC Seva Vanitha Branch attended as the Chief Guest and gave away gifts for the winners of the games and competition. The event was organized by the RC SLAWC together with 1SLAWC under the direction of Major General MKUP Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG Commander, Security Forces – East and the Colonel Commandant of SLAWC.
Subsequently, civil employees serving the regimental center and 1SLAWC were given specially dry ration packs and gift parcels by Mrs Nayomi Gunaratne President of SLAWC Seva Vanitha Branch and Brigadier Rohan Jayakody SLAWC Centre Commandant in a special gesture during the ceremony.
